Definition:

A collector/distributor road runs parallel to the highway to minimize interactions between through traffic and traffic entering or exiting a roadway. It “collects” vehicles from on-ramps or streets and “distributes” others to off-ramps or streets before rejoining the highway.

Benefits:

• Improves traffic flow on freeways in where multiple interchanges are in close proximity.
• Improves safety by moving weaving movements off of the mainline lanes of traffic.
